It’s early spring in Andalucía, Spain. As the sun rises, the light hits the pebbled courtyards, painted tiles and centuries-old stone walls. Capturing it in her sketchbook is expressionist artist Barbara Rae, whose paintings of intense colour and emotion have inspired this story. The key looks have a utility aspect; fabrics are heavily textured and beautifully crafted with dobby stripes and multicoloured large scale checks. Fine wale cord makes an appearance for spring summer, contrasting with chunky cotton tape yarns and a new alpaca & silk brushed yarn that adds fluff and softness. Colours are reminiscent of historic Spanish plazas: plaster, ecru, ochre and charcoal are interrupted with bright terracotta and a flash of azure blue.
