Fibre
Our organic cotton is grown in India, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. The cotton is certified by Organic Cotton Standard which ensures that it has been grown solely on organic farms that take care of the soil, ecosystem and people by relying on biodiversity and local natural cycles.
Our hemp fibres come from France and China. Similar in character to linen, hemp is exceptionally strong and naturally softens with washing, developing a beautifully relaxed handle over time. It is naturally breathable, moisture-absorbent and its insulating qualities help to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. Often referred to as a ‘super fibre’, hemp is a fast-growing and efficient crop that requires minimal water, fertilisers and pesticides to grow.
Fabric
Corduroy is made by weaving extra sets of fibre into the base fabric to form vertical piles. It makes soft and versatile fabric. Corduroy fabric has a long history: first created in ancient Egypt, then adapted by the British monarchy and re-discovered by 70’s bohemians, it remains one of the most loved natural autumn/winter fabrics. The hemp gives the fabric its nice drape and cotton- softness. The fabric is piece dyed which means dyed after weaving or knitting the fabric, this creates a solid colouring throughout the fabric. After woven into fabric, cut and sewn, the garments are washed to give the fabric a softer handle as well as a more casual appearance. The fabric will continue to soften each time you wash it.
Factory
The yarn, fabric and garments are all made by our supplier based in Rushan, to the north of Shanghai. The garment factory is powered by solar panels and focuses on producing environmentally-friendly clothing using hemp. We are proud to have worked with this supplier and their team for more than ten years.
